•Linear regulator is use to get steady output voltage.

•Linear regulator can only step down the input voltage it can not step up input voltage.

•To get the regulated output voltage it wastes power in the form of heat.

•Below 10 watt output power the linear regulator is useful.

•The resistance of linear regulator varies according  the load to get the constant output voltage.

•Series and shunt linear regulator are the types of linear regulator.

•Linear regulator also come in the form of ICs.

•We can also use linear regulator with heat sink.

•Linear regulator is smaller in size and does not required magnetic devices like inductor and transformer.

•The shunt regulator is less efficient than series regulator.

•Linear regulator is noise free.

•The efficiency of linear regulator is low or medium.

•The efficiency of linear regulator will be high if the difference between input and output voltage is less.
