Starting torque can be obtained in the case of a single phase induction motor with identical main and auxiliary windings by connecting: 

(1) A capacitor across the mains (2) A capacitor in series with the machine (3) A capacitor is series with the auxiliary winding (4) Equal value capacitors in series with the main and the auxiliary windings
